Summer Assignment



The surface meaning
Men see themselves as fearless, making this commercial a good fit with the skydiving, drifting and ramping. A brave man is what a man likes to think of himself as. A man can see himself as the leader of the household and protector of his family, which is a universal role of bravery
Advertiser’s intended meaning
Chevy’s intention for the viewer was to let them visualize the extremities of the Sonic car, with stunts like kick flips, bungee jumping, and skydiving which are extremes that humans can also struggle with accomplishing, which when accomplished can make for a rush of adrenaline.
Cultural meaning
The song choice “We are young” by Fun was to set up to show a kid at heart persona. Men like to live on the edge by doing extreme activities that have risk taking of life or death situation. Guys like to have toys like when they were little boys, just when they grow up the toys get bigger. Toy cars into a real life size cars for example.

Men like to share the same masculine desires such as food and woman. When a female shows the same interest and also depicts a sexual connotation, a male would like to expect that from an actual female in reality. Although the odds of a woman having sexual relations with a burger like in the commercial are highly unlikely. But a man can dream!
Advertiser’s intended meaning
The advertiser would like to think the burger would sell to the male population seeing that it attracts women. That being said a male will chase what a woman obsesses over, or shows some type of sexual relation to. At an opposite view, a male won’t chase a burger with an unattractive girl as advertisement.
Cultural meaning
The men nature is to go after what he desires and toward his attraction. Looks is a start to catch a guy’s eye. Men want a girl with a pretty face and a burger with quality produce. The commercial shows that men are very visual. Sex and food being key In the selling of the burgers.

Women like to think of themselves as individuals, independent individuals. Drew Barrymore, being an American actor and having complete success in her career. The commercial reflects her sophisticated lifestyle, you can tell by the way she carries herself in the commercial. As well advertising the makeup showing that other women should also carry themselves in such a manner.
Advertisers Intended Meaning
The makeup used in the Ad reflects the advertisers outlook on how he or she would like to see a sophisticated female. Drew being the spokes person and flaunting her looks and product makes the viewer have the urge to see themselves in the same light.
Cultural meaning
Females like to see themselves as the dominant sex with traits of intelligent, powerful, and sophisticated. Its culture for them to live their life such with high authority over the male race, to succeed In their own careers.

Women like to think of men being healthy and athletic. Wheaties being a supporter of men being fit uses a world renowned athlete, Bruce Jenner. Since Bruce is so widely known people will get the aspect that Wheaties helps the athletic lifestyle. Women appreciate men that have muscle mass and a good diet. That’s where Wheaties comes in.
Advertisers intended meaning
Wheaties known phrase “Breakfast of Champions” gives the viewer the want to eat healthy to use their athleticism to its upmost ability.  Women seeing the commercial with Bruce, being such a champion also while eating Wheaties, gives Wheaties a good rep. on the female end.
Cultural meaning:
Wheaties gives a proper diet for staying fit and performing at top level. Women think of men with strong muscles and hard core. Men like to show dominance over other men to prove whose better than the other, that’s why competition are held such as the Olympics, where Bruce Jenner participated in.
